com CAAE CAAE Course Curriculum – Level 1 BASIC ASTROLOGY Course Prerequisite: No prerequisite The goal of the CAAE Level 1 curriculum is to teach students to read and delineate an astrological chart at a basic level

The recommended curriculum for this level represents 45 – 60 hours of in-class instruction

The level 1 curriculum is divided into core,

discussion and introductory topics

Discussion topics will not be examined

Examination: The focus of the exam is to test the ability to complete the CAAE level 1 chart form,

identify chart and major aspect patterns,

as well as discuss the natal chart in terms of the primary triad—the Sun,

Moon and Ascendant and quadrant/hemisphere emphasis

The core topics are tested with the completion of the CAAE Level 1 chart form,

basic chart delineation by using appropriate keywords,

short answer questions as well as true/false and multiple-choice questions

Introductory topics are tested with true/false and multiple-choice questions only

The emphasis remains on keywords,

no extensive delineation will be required

The three-hour exam is available at various locations in Canada twice a year

The passing mark is 70%

Planetary Rulerships & Houses

The CAAE adopts modern planetary/sign rulerships in our teaching guidelines and exams (with the exception of the CAAE Horary and Electional Astrology course which is primarily based on the classical/traditional astrology principles)

CAAE Level 1 curriculum and exams are based on the modern rulerships

Students and teachers have the option to use the modern or classical rulerships in exams and assignments beyond Level 1

The exam charts are provided with Placidus houses,

while students beyond Level 1 are welcome to use either Placidus or Koch houses for exam purposes (i

reference charts submitted with completed exams)

Note: However,

if you have adopted classical/traditional rulerships in your studies,

please state this clearly at the beginning of your exam

or the equivalent knowledge and ability to read and delineate an astrological chart at a basic level The goal of the CAAE Level 2 curriculum is to teach comprehensive natal chart delineation

The recommended curriculum for this level represents 45 – 60 hours of in-class instruction beyond Level 1,

or an equivalent level of knowledge of the course material

The level 2 curriculum is divided into core,

discussion and introductory topics

Discussion topics will not be examined

Examination: The Level 2 examination will consist of essay questions,

some completion of worksheets and intermediate delineation of the examination charts (refer to the core topics listed below)

Introductory topics are tested with true/false and multiple-choice questions only

The passing mark is 70%

Currently the level 2 exam is offered only as a take-home exam

The take-home (open-book) exam is to be completed within 14 days of delivery,

and candidates are required to write a comprehensive delineation of the natal chart—10-15 typewritten pages addressing the various components of the level 2 course material

The work needs to be the candidate’s own,

it is open-book and candidates can opt to use reference material,

quote other authorities within the acceptable guidelines of quoting another’s written work
