Calibration Test System for use with Explosimeter® Models 2,2a,

Models 40,

Flow Control

Calibration gas,

OR Calibration gas,

Instructions Before the calibration can be checked,

the instrument and its aspirator sampling bulb must be in operating condition as described in the instrument Instruction Manual

Attach the flow control to the calibration gas tank

Connect the hose to the flow control and to the instrument inlet fitting

Open the flow control valve

Record the meter reading after it stabilizes

NOTE: It is not necessary to operate the aspirator bulb to obtain the calibration sample

Depending on which calibration gas is used,

the instrument reading should be within one of the following ranges:

METHANE

20 and 21

42 to 60%

54 to 76%

30 to 38%

40 to 52%

35 to 47%

48 to 65%

68 to 84%

40 to 51%

53 to 68%

50 to 70%

65 to 95%

"This instrument has an internal span control

Adjust the span control to obtain the correct reading for the gas used

If the instrument does not read within the acceptable range,

replace the detector filament unit (the black filament,

20 and 21,

Remove the flow control from the calibration gas tank

Calibration Test System for use with Combustible Gas and Oxygen Indicator Model 260 and 261

PARTS REQUIRED Flow Control

Calibration gas,

NOTE: The Model 260 and 261 are normally factory-calibrated on pentane

Instructions Test the operation of the pump and sample flow indicator by momentarily placing a finger over the sample inlet of the instrument

The flow indicator should be at the top of the window when the inlet is open

the indicator should then fall from view when the inlet is blocked

If not,

see the instrument Instruction Manual for required maintenance

remove the right end of the indicator and adjust the SPAN or "S" control to obtain 50%

Verify the oxygen meter indication

it should be between 13 and 17%

(This is a response check only

The oxygen sensor should be calibrated to 20

Attach the flow control to the calibration gas tank

Disconnect the hose fitting from the instrument

Connect the hose to the flow control

Close the flow control valve

Open the flow control valve

Remove the hose from the flow control

Connect the hose fitting to the inlet of the instrument

after about 15 seconds the LEL meter should be stable and indicating between 47 and 55%

If the indication is

Remove the flow control from the calibration gas tank

Calibration Test System for use with Carbon Monoxide Indicator Model 70 M

Calibration gas,

Carbon Monoxide 60 ppm

Calibration gas,

Carbon Monoxide 300 ppm

Instructions Before the calibration can be checked,

the Model 70 must be in operating condition

The instrument must be allowed to stabilize for at least 1 hour in the STAND-BY mode if previously stored OFF

If a sampling line and/or moisturizing bottle are to be used with the instrument,

they must be connected to the instrument while the calibration is checked

Attach the flow control to the calibration gas tank

Open the regulator valve

Set the MODE switch to the ON position and the RANGE switch to the range being checked

Allow the instrument to reach a stable indication

Adjust the SPAN control,

to obtain the correct indication for the calibration gas used

Remove the hose from the regulator and instrument

Connect the hose to the flow control

Close the regulator valve

Connect the hose fitting to the instrument inlet or to the instrument sampling line,

Remove the regulator from the calibration gas tank

Instructions Test the operation of the pump and sample flow indicator by momentarily placing a finger over the sample inlet of the instrument

The flow indicator should be at the top of the window when the inlet is open

If not,

see the instrument Instruction Manual for required maintenance

Attach the flow control to the calibration gas tank

LEL indication should be stable and indicating between 24 and 33% LEL (If the indication is not in the correct range,

remove the right-hand side cover and adjust the SPAN or "S" control to obtain a reading of 28)

Disconnect the hose fitting from the instrument

Close the flow control valve

Remove the hose from the flow control

Connect the hose to the flow control

Open the flow control valve

Connect the hose fitting to the inlet of the instrument

Remove the flow control from the calibration gas tank

Close the flow control valve

Open the flow control valve

Remove the hose from the flow control and instrument inlet fitting

Record the meter reading after it stabilizes

Remove the flow control from the calibration gas tank

NOTE: It is not necessary to operate the aspirator bulb to obtain the calibration sample

Depending on which calibration gas is used,

the instrument reading should be within one of the following ranges:

Repeat the steps 1 through 7 using the other calibration gas

If the instrument does not read within the acceptable range,

replace the detector filament unit,

Repeat the calibration check procedure

Calibration Test System for use with Tankscope™ Model B Indicator

Flow Control

Calibration gas,

Butane,

NOTE: Calibration gas can is not accurate when used at temperatures below SOT

Instructions Before the calibration can be checked,

the instrument and its aspirator sampling bulb must be in operating condition as described in the instrument Instruction Manual

NOTE: Calibration should be done at a temperature between 50° and 90T

Attach the flow control to the calibration gas tank

Connect the hose to the flow control and to the instrument inlet fitting

Open the flow control valve and allow the calibration gas to flow through the instrument for 10 to 20 seconds

Close the flow control valve

The instrument reading should be within the range of 7

If the instrument does not read within this range,

use a small screwdriver to adjust the panel SPAN control until a reading of 8

Remove the hose from the flow control and the instrument inlet fitting

Remove the flow control from the calibration gas tank

Attach the flow control to the pentane calibration gas tank

The oxygen sensor should be calibrated to 20

Disconnect the hose fitting from the instrument

Close the flow control valve

Remove the flow control from the calibration gas tank

Connect the hose to the flow control

Attach the flow control to the carbon monoxide calibration gas tank

Open the flow control valve

Open the flow control valve

Connect the hose fitting to the instrument inlet

after approximately 15 seconds,

the LEL readout should stabilize and indicate between 47 and 55%

If the indication is not in the correct range,

remove the right end of the instrument and adjust the LEL SPAN control to obtain 50%

Connect the hose fitting to the instrument inlet

the TOX readout should stabilize and indicate between 54 and 66 ppm

If the indication is not in the correct range,

remove the right end of the indicator and adjust the TOX SPAN control to obtain 60 ppm

Verify the oxygen reading

it should be between 13 and 17%

Disconnect the hose fitting from the instrument

NOTE: The above procedure will calibrate the 0-5 or LEL ranges on the

Gascope Models 60 or 62,

The 0-100 or GAS range on the Gascopes normally do not need to be recalibrated unless the instrument is damaged,

usually by drawing liquids into the sample inlet

If the Gascope is damaged and repaired,

the 0-100 or gas range must be calibrated using the additional equipment and steps stated in the instrument Instruction Manual
